Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us. It can be hard to explain and is best experienced first hand in order to fully appreciate the benefits. If you are feeling that you need something but aren't sure
what might help, then Reiki might be just the thing to bring you back into balance.
Which conditions can Reiki help?
Reiki works at several levels - physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Therefore it can help - Acute or Painful areas, Chronic ailments, or generally feeling 'out of sorts' or emotionally vulnerable. Menstrual or Menopausal fluctuations may be eased by it as well.
It is safe during Pregnancy and can also bring a sense of peace during a terminal illness.
It can also be combined with massage to give a very relaxing, balancing session.
A Reiki Treatment
Reiki is a different type of treatment from a massage, and receiving one from a practitioner is a very simple process, where the client simply lies on a couch and relaxes. You will be made comfortable with cushions and covers and gentle music will be played in the background. There is no need to remove any clothing as the practitioner simply places their hands gently, in non-intrusive positions, around the body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes about 1 hour with each position held for several minutes.
Natural Healing
Reiki is a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926).
People often assume that as an Eastern discipline, Reiki must be linked to Buddhism or religion in some way. However there is no belief system attached to Reiki, the only necessary ‘belief’ is an acceptance of the universal energy all around us. Reiki can be used alongside other complementary therapies and conventional treatments.
